Superman Ruby Spear DVD Coming in NOVEMBER!

SUPERMAN SOARS INTO STORES WITH WARNER HOME VIDEO'S DVD RELEASE OF RUBY-SPEARS SUPERMAN ON NOVEMBER 3, 2009!
At Last All 13 Ruby-Spears Episodes Are Released On DVD Over 20 Years Later

As a 50th anniversary gift to fans, DC Comics' Man of Steel was given a brand-new Saturday morning cartoon in 1988. Now, fans of all ages can finally join the celebration when Warner Home Video (WHV) and DC Comics release Ruby-Spears Superman, a 2-disc collection of cartoons from the Warner Bros. vault, on November 3, 2009 for US$26.99 SRP. Order due date is September 29, 2009.

Debuting in 1988, the Ruby-Spears Superman series brought back some familiar foes and new unfriendly faces for battles against our favorite hero. In addition to the thrills of Superman's weekly adventures, each episode also includes a mini-segment - a continuing series called Superman Family Album. These featurettes tell the real story of what it was like to grow up as the most powerful boy in Smallville. Watch young Clark Kent deal with not only the normal trials and tribulations of youth and adolescence, but learn to balance them with his newfound super powers.

Ruby-Spears Productions was founded in 1977 by veteran writers Joe Ruby and Ken Spears. Ruby and Spears started as sound editors at Hanna-Barbera, branched out into writing, and eventually went on to create "Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!" In total, Ruby-Spears Productions produced 36 different TV series including the hit, "Alvin and the Chipmunks."

"These celebratory episodes not only take fans through the expected, yet exhilarating, adventures of Superman, but they share the untold story of his youth," said Amit Desai, WHV Vice President of Family, Animation & Sports Marketing. "Warner Home Video is absolutely thrilled to release Ruby-Spears Superman just in time for the holiday season."

Ruby-Spears Superman will include the special feature:

Corruption of the Corrupt: The Rise of LexCorp:

Smallville Picked Up for Season 9

TVWeek.com reports that The CW is set to announce that they've renewed "Smallville" for a ninth season.

The network has given early renewals to a half-dozen existing series, including Superman drama "Smallville."
The CW President Dawn Ostroff began telephoning executives at Warner Bros. Television and CBS Paramount Network Television about the decision Tuesday morning. The network could announce the news as early as this afternoon.

In addition to "Smallville," the series renewed for next season are "Gossip Girl," "90210," "America's Next Top Model" (cycles 13 and 14), "One Tree Hill" and "Supernatural."

In the case of "Smallville," producer Warner Bros. Television had been negotiating with series star Tom Welling to return. The CW's renewal indicates the studio was successful in those conversations.

Chicago Expo in 2010 at McCormick Place, Chicago

According to CBR, Chicago is getting another comic book convention in addition to Wizard World. The Chicago Comic and Entertainment Expo in 2010.
Unlike Wizard World's Rosemont location, the Chicago Comic and Entertainment Expo will be held in downtown Chicago at McCormick Place. C2E2, as it's being called, will be held April 16 to 18, 2010.

C2E2 is being put on by Reed Exhibitions, the same company that puts on the New York City Comic Con (which is being held this weekend).

As comic book conventions shrink in size and frequency across the US (notably Wizard canceling Texas and delaying LA), this new venue will give Superman fans another chance to meet one another in the coming years.

The full story can be found here. C2E2 already has a website though there's not much there yet, but you may want to bookmark it for the future.

"Smallville" Season 8 Finale Could Be Series Finale

The Sun Sentinel has published an article regarding the status of shows on The CW. There's only one small paragraph about "Smallville", but the content of which may dismay many fans...

[The CW's Entertainment President, Dawn] Ostroff declined to definitively say Smallville is over after this season but she indicated this is the direction the CW is leaning. The producers have been told to create a season-ender that could also serve as the series-ender.

While the Producers of "Smallville" would obviously love for the show to go a ninth season, going as far as to try and re-sign the show's stars (such as Tom Welling) for an additional season, they are ultimately at the mercy of the network.
There's no doubt we'll be hearing more about this as Season 8's finale draws closer.

Michael Rosenbaum Willing To Return For The Series' Final Episodes?

The Windy City Times recently caught up with Michael Rosenbaum, where they talked about his career - past, present, and future - and the subject of a return to Smallville did come up... but there's a stipulation.

"I told the producers that I would only come back for the last episode or two if they let me wear a bald cap. I just grew my hair out," he said.

He also revealed in the interview that the producers have already attempted to bring him back. "They have asked me to come back a few times. People think they have seen me on the show since then but I found out they have been using body doubles to pretend that it's me. I don't know how fair that is to the fans," he says.

You can read the entire interview at the Windy City Times website.

Tom Welling Close Signing a Deal for Season 9 of Smallville

According to Entertainment Weekly's Michael Ausiello, he has posted some good news for those of us who are hoping for a ninth season of Smallville starring Tom Welling.

From this week's Ask Ausiello column:

Question: Any news as to whether Tom Welling has signed on for another season of Smallville? -- Scarlett

Ausiello: Yes, there's news, and it's good. Some would even call it, ahem, super. According to a well-placed Smallville insider, Welling is nearing a deal to return for a ninth season. I'm told they're just ironing out some minor deal points, such as should the Brinks Truck pull into the actor's driveway, or just unload on the street.

Goyer Says "All DC Projects on Hold at WB"

Director/writer David Goyer says all the DC properties currently over at Warner Bros. have been put on hold for the time being. When asked about several projects he's been involved with - i.e. Supermax, The Flash - Goyer said in a recent interview with IESB, "A lot of the DC movies at Warner Brothers are all on hold while the figure out, they're going to come up with some new plan, methodology, things like that so everything has just been pressed pause on at the moment. It was the double header of both Iron Man and The Dark Knight coming out, so more than ever I think they've realized, I think DC was responsible for 15% of Warner Brother's revenue this year, something crazy like that, so they realized that comic books, it's become a new genre, one of the most successful genres." - IESB.NET
