WB HMV OFFICIAL CHAT: Adventures of Superboy Seasons 2,3, & 4 on DVD Status

THE ADVENTURES OF SUPERBOY SEASONS 2,3, & 4 - STILL A NO GO ON DVD FROM WARNER BROS

On Monday evening April 5th, WB held their annual Warner Bros Home Video Chat.

Q: Hi, I was eager to get the rest of the seasons of The Adventures of Superboy. Sadly, seasons 2 through 4 haven't been released yet. This show was more popular in the seasons that have yet to be released, and as this is one of the last few Superman shows that has yet to completely be released, when will we see the rest of the series on DVD? If not, why not?

WB: Unfortunately, sales did not meet expectations so there are no future seasons planned. However, look for the animated Adventures of Superboy...coming in the future.

Once again WB answer remains the same as last year. Sales from 2006 and on did not meet expectations which is why the rest of the series is gathering dust. It really is ashame that the rest of the series will not be released for future generations of Superboy fans to enjoy.

One would think that with a new Superman film by Christopher Nolan and the Dark Knight team around the corner and with next year of Smallville possibly be the last for the series. WB would plan to milk the Superman brand name by releasing anything and everything DVD / Blu-Ray related to the Superman character. There is a slim possibility that down the line with the rebirth and renewed interests of a new Superman on film and the ending of Smallville that WB in two or three years down the line will release the final three seasons of The Adventures of Superboy. We Superboy fans, will just have to continue to wait and hope that this release will happen.

Continue to follow the Superboy Homepage.com for any new information concerning the Superboy series or any Superman related releases either on DVD or Blu-Ray as they become available.

Thank You to Home Theater Forum.com for conducting the chat with WARNER BROS HOME VIDEO.

The Adventures of Superboy 1961 TV Pilot

Earths Mightiest invites everyone to take a trip back in time and check out the full 1961 TV pilot "The Adventures of Superboy", starring Johnny Rockwell as the Teen of Steel. In addition, Rockwell was interviewed about playing the part.

The proposed half hour series, which had had 13 story outlines written for it, was designed to take the place of the George Reeves Adventures of Superman series, which had come to an end.

In an interview with author Chuck Harter, Rockwell reflected, "When Superboy was casting, I was on the lot working on a pilot called Time Out for Ginger. As soon as I heard about the part being available, I went over and found out where the office was on a break. I walked in and [producer] Whitney Ellsworth was playing gin rummy with the head of the studio. I told him, 'You don't have to look any further. I can fly.' I was also a very good gin player at the time, so I said I would play the winner. Whit won, so I started playing him and began winning. At that point I more or less knew I had the job. I did have to read a few lines, but I think I got the job because I was a good gin player.

"The Superboy costume was grey and brown," he added. "Initially I didn't know why that was, but I was told that the costume photographed better that way because the pilot was going to be shot in black and white. There were two costumes made. They were both returned to Whit after filming and I don't know what happened to them. The boots were suede. The total shooting time was three to four days, with the flying scenes done the following week. When we were on location and I was about to go through the cabin wall, the crew wanted to make sure I was going through the right one, because they only built one fake wall.

"When we were on location in Santa Monica. there was a crowd of children around asking for autographs. Some of the little kids asked me, 'How do you fly? We want to see you fly!' I didn't know what to say, so I asked Whit what to do. He said that George Reeves used to say to the kids, 'If you touch me in the right spot, I'll fly.' I laughed and went over and said the same thing to the kids. Shortly thereafter, security roped off the streets so we could continue shooting.

"In order to do the flying scenes, they had me in a studio suspended by wires. They made a torso cast that fit under my costume and I held my legs up myself. There was no support. The backgrounds were added later in a video production studio. During the shooting, they would tell me, 'You're flying. Now look down,' etc. After seeing the finished pilot, everyone thought that the show was going to be sold. I was told, 'You're going to be working a lot, so you'd better get some rest. But [then] I was told that Kellogs didn't want the series sold - there was a conflict with them still having Adventures of Superman on the air. I was disappointed. The pilot could have been done better, but I still think the kids would have liked it."

Smallville Producers Sue Warner Bros CW

The Hollywood Reporter reports that creators/executive producers Miles Miller and Alfred Gough and series co-producer Tollin/Robbins Prods. on Friday sued Warner Bros. TV, the studio behind the long-running sci-fi series, and with the CW, the network that recently renewed the show for a 10th season.

Causes of action for breach of contract and breach of fiduciary duty are alleged against Time Warner and its divisions -- WBTV, Warner Bros. Domestic TV Distribution, the now-defunct WB network, where the show started -- and the CW, a co-venture with CBS. The complaint says WBTV made license fee deals with the WB and then the CW that "were not arms-length." The complaint does not specify damages but, given the allegations and the longevity of the series, they could total in the tens of millions of dollars.

"Warner Bros.' practices of unfair self-dealing include licensing the series for broadcast on its own affiliated WB and CW networks for unreasonably low, below-market license fees, resulting in lower gross revenues for the series and less compensation for plaintiffs, and failing to renegotiate the series' license fee to cover its production cost," the suit claims.

The "Smallville" producers also claim that Warner Bros. sold the show in foreign markets and "lumped it in with several other, less successful shows" in a package. In allocating individual license fees to the series afterwards, "several series that are less popular than 'Smallville' were allocated a higher per-episode fee than 'Smallville' " and "Smallville's" allocation was "well below the value of the series in the foreign markets."

As a whole, the producers accuse the Time Warner divisions of "depriving them of compensation to which they are entitled ... by failing to maximize profits from the series, all to the benefit of the vertically-integrated conglomerate Time Warner," and are looking to recover "millions of dollars" of unpaid compensation.

Warner Bros. had no comment on the lawsuit, which was filed by attorney Michael Kump.
